How much drama can one put into music? Enough to make it both dark and beautiful. ČORNABROVA is the queen of dark hop who mixes folk tunes and elektronic music with lyrics that carry deep meaning.
CHORNABROVA has released a new album COMA
CHORNABROVA + band is an interdisciplinary queer musical group that combines electronic music with folk motifs in its tracks.
The band consists of:
- Palina Dabravolskaya (lead vocals)
- Kacper Słowik-Dabravolskaya (bass guitar, trumpet)
About the album COMA:
The album's dramaturgy consists of stories on behalf of the artificial intelligence Coma, which exists beyond traditional physicality and experience. It dives into themes of man and humanity, politics, capitalism, migration, Earth, ecology, and the essence of being. Therefore, each track is a story about the relationship of coma to our world. By creating this project, we want to overcome boundaries, look at the world in a new way through the eyes of Coma, and build a dialogue with people on a deeper level.
What makes this album unique?
Firstly, this is our first full release in English. For me as a Belarusian performer, this is very important, as I want to share my music with even more people.
Secondly, its genre. Described initially as alternative hip-hop with folklore, some call it dark hop, others label it theatrical rap. I've decided to coin a new genre – B-pop. Belarusian, bisexual, badass. It's a celebration of identity and a unique fusion of influences.
Thirdly, this is not only music but an audio performance. The dramaturgy of the tracks develops from the first to the last; if you listen in order, you can see how Coma and the world around it are changing.
